The Slippery Slope

No, this post isn’t about the dangers of having a glass of wine with dinner.  You know how one decision can lead to the next thing and the next thing and pretty soon you’ve got more than you bargained for?  Well, let me tell you about my stove.  My oven has been a junker for quite awhile now.  And finally we made the decision to get a different one. At first I was happy to just get a better used one.  But Keith wanted to get a new one.  Well, that was the beginning of  a long sequence of things.  Keith and I went to Winnipeg last month and one of the main things on the agenda was to get a stove – a white, coil-top, good-quality, but lower-end stove.  I don’t need all the bells and whistles, ya know.  Now I’ll give you the condensed version of the story.  We left the store with a black, flat-top, convection, um, not-cheap stove.  What in the world?  Here’s one part of the process:  Keith: “I think that long-term you’ll be happier with the flat-top.”  Me: “Well, long-term, I’d be happier with black!” (I had no idea that my happiness had such power!  Originally, I was going to be ecstatic if the thing could just bake evenly and not burn my bread!!!)  So, out with the old…

And in with the new:

(Notice how I didn’t clean up the kitchen to take pictures.)  So now, can you guess what the problem is?

If you can’t guess, I’ll give you a hint: colour…  So, being the nerd that I am, this is what is happening now:

Stay tuned for more adventures with “Jenni the cheapskate home renovator”.

  1. i can’t wait to see the finished product(s?)! and let’s see…that old stove was 11 years old, so i guess it had done it’s time. :)

also, what is that thing on the counter in the picture with the new stove?? i’m so curious! :)

  2. Ha! You’re a hoot!

  3. Ha! you’re hilarious. I didn’t realize painting the dishwasher was such an ordeal. All that moving might just push that thing over the edge too and you can go get a new black one. = ) The oven looks lovely.

  4. Rhonda, I totally forgot that was your stove. I’m sorry for speaking disrespectfully of it. The “thing” is a flour mill. It’s great! (Yup, I’m spoiled!)

  5. Does the paint job look nice? You’ll have to make sure the kids don’t bump it now and make white scratches. =)

  6. haha! That’s hilarious! I’ll be curious to see how the paint holds up. :)

    Love your new stove!

  7. Leave it to you. =) I’m proud of you! And I’m happy for me…..Arthur just anounced that we’re going to get a new stove this year just because he’s tired of dealing with the broken oven drawer that always comes off the track! =) We’ll see if it actually happens…… Just letting you know that I have internet again and I was here catching up. =)

  8. I LOVE my convection oven. I will never go back!
It is actually quite frustrating when I use someone else’s “regular” oven, I am never quite satisfied with the results.

  9. nice! and I love the fact that you are spray painting the old”er” appliances!! I can’t wait to see pictures on how those turn out!! Your kitchen looks great! hmm…..I can just see black rod iron handles on those cupboards tho now that your appliances are black!!
