drum roll please…

Yes, I bought black paint, and yes, I painted my dishwasher and fridge.

Taking the plunge. “I wonder if this will work!”  We had amazing weather so it was great for doing it outside.  Except that the bugs stuck in the wet paint. :-)

And here’s the finished product:

Not bad, eh?  There are a few imperfections which made me squelch my perfectionistic self and go on with life.  I painted over all the words/controls on the dishwasher because I didn’t know what else to do.  I bought a paint pen so that someone with better hand-writing than myself can write them back in.  But I’m not sure if I’ll bother.  I wrote down all the buttons/words on a piece of paper in case I need them.

So now, the next step in the Grand. Kitchen. Reno. is doing something to fix the finish on the cupboards.  I’m thinking paint, but Keith isn’t convinced yet.  Time will tell.  Nothing more is happening until next spring/summer.

  1. Wow – they look really nice! I wonder if you could get scrapbooking stickers with numbers or words to put around the dishwasher dial? Don’t know if such a thing exists though.

  2. good work! it made me give my appliances a second glance just now…ha. :) i should see if i could find a picture for you of a kitchen i saw online once with deep red cupboards…it was beeeeyoootiful, but i maybe that’s a little more extreme than you were thinking. :)

  3. Hey Jenni, They look great! I’m curious, did you roll the fridge and spray the dishwasher? Did one work better than the other? (I tried painting lockers once with a roller and the paint got a little bumpy. Maybe my roller was too thick?)

  4. From my research this summer on re-doing cabinets (we had to redo some for the suite Kevin was doing) the general consensus is to paint cabinets white and change the hardware. Anyways, just my two-cents! The appliances look great!

  5. I LOVE THE BLACK APPLIANCES!! I’m totally impressed!! How is the paint holding up?!! I’m assuming it will hold up just fine! I’ve painted quite a few cabinets in my day….and they all have turned out beautiful!! I would suggest white or cream…..if you ever really decide to do so…..I would love to give you step by step instructions…it’s really not hard….just time taking.
